Syrian Armenian Emergency Relief Fund Appeal
The Syrian Armenian community is the descendent of survivors of the Armenian Genocide who took refuge in Syria thanks to the generous hospitality of the Syrian people, and who have established themselves as a thriving and hard working community.
The recent tragic developments and unrest have resulted in enormous disruption of the peaceful life of the Armenian people of Syria and as the situation both in Damascus as well as Aleppo has worsened, the life of the Armenian community has become untenable.
A large portion of the 150,000 Armenians living in Syria are in desperate need of assistance. Their homes are being destroyed and businesses are unable to function. The community is in desperate need of immediate help to survive.
They need financial help to find food for themselves and their children, to repair their damaged properties, to obtain temporary shelter, to seek medical assistance and medication for their sick and injured and to maintain their community infrastructure.
It is the humanitarian duty of every Armenian to come to the aid of the Armenian people of Syria.
Public appeals have been made by both the Catholicosate of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Catholicosate of Cilicia, to all communities of the Diaspora for immediate financial assistance, and in response, the Armenian Community and Church Council of Great Britain has opened a Relief Fund bank account and appointed a specific Relief Fund Committee.
We know that we are in the midst of a recession, however, we are certain that all British Armenians will wish to extend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Syria, particularly in Aleppo, who even as you read this message, are suffering in the midst of gunfire and bombardment, and who now rely on us for their survival.
Any amount of donation is welcomed and will be highly appreciated.
