Message from organiser, Dr Alan Kessedjian:
I am delighted to announce that a UK film premiere of ‘The Other Side of Home’ a film by Nare Mkrtchyan will be showing as part of the Screening Rights Social Justice Film Festival in Birmingham on Sunday 29th October at 6pm at Midland Arts Centre. (See their box office for tickets). This compelling and very moving film documentary made over 2015, explores the conflicted identity of Maya a Turkish woman who discovers that her great grandmother was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide. The documentary follows Maya as she decides to go to Armenia to take part in the 100th commemoration of the Genocide and through her personal journey the documentary sheds some light on the ‘hidden’ Armenians and their descendants. We are delighted that the film director Nare Mkrtchyan will be present at the film screening and for a Q and A’s session afterwards. Ara Sarafian the internationally respected historian and founding director of The Gomidas Institute in London, is also going to be one of the panel guests after the screening.
