PRESS RELEASE BY THE ARMENIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE UK:

Mr. Stephen Pound, MP for Ealing North pays an historic visit to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh

The Armenian National Committee of the United Kingdom is pleased to announce the first ever visit to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh by Ealing North MP, the Rt. Hon. Mr Stephen Pound.

As is well known, Mr Pound is and has been a staunch advocate for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the UK Parliament. As an MP, he represents a sizeable number of British Armenians living in Ealing North, London. Since 1997, Stephen has spoken out in the British Parliament on many important issues concerning his constituents.

To enhance his knowledge of issues concerning Armenians in the UK and worldwide, he has taken the historic step of making a fact¥]finding visit to Armenia and Artsakh.

Mr Pound arrived in Yerevan, on August 19th; held a number of meetings with prominent political figures, including Giro Manoyan, the International Secretariat of ARF, Armen Rustamyan, a National Assembly Deputy representing ARF Dashnaktsutyun and a meeting with Mr Gegham Gharibjanian, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Pound then travelled to Nagorno Karabakh where he met Mr Georgy Petrossian, the NKR Foreign Minister, Mr Ashot Ghoulian, Speaker of the NKR National Assembly and others.

After visiting various historical Armenian sites in Nagorno Karabakh, he returned to Yerevan to hold a press conference and TV interviews.

The visit ended with a trip to Dzidzernagapert, the memorial site of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
