Press Release Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the United Kingdom London, 10 December 2003 A
prestigious Country Award, sponsored by Barrick Gold company, was presented to Armenia at the Mining Journal Outstanding Achievement Awards ceremony that took place at the London's ExCel Centre on 3rd
December 2003. A total of 15 different countries were nominated for this award that have shown improvements for foreign mining investors and outstanding achievements in the international mining industry during the
past 12 months. Six countries were shortlisted for this award: Armenia, China, Congo (DR), Peru, Russia and Tanzania. According to the Mining Journal "By enacting a new concession law and mining code,
and providing the supporting legislation, Armenia became the first former Soviet Union country to adopt a western-style legal framework. The country has also developed a minerals policy, and shown itself willing to
engage foreign investors by arranging an investment seminar in London. As a result, the investement climate in Armenia is among the most favourable in Central Asia and the Caucasus. In order to attract further foreign
investment, the government is working to make the investment climate even more favourable." The award was handed to the representative of the Armenian Embassy in London. *
* * Two Armenian companies, "Fero", a coffee producing company and "Spitak Tnak", a construction company were amongst those companies that received "Gold Crown" awards for their
achievments in quality during the International Quality Crown Convention Gala dinner-award ceremony that took place in London on December 1st. Around 100 companies from 51 different countries were
participating in the ceremony for 3 different categories of award: Dimond Crown, Platinium Crown and Gold Crown awards. |
